Nothing very interesting I am afraid but I like to keep up the diary.
My personal health supervisor, the magnificent Komesu san https://thequietripple.com/2023/11/15/how-much-is-that-doggy-in-the-window/ summons me for an audience. She has the results from recent diabetes, arteriosclerosis and other stuff tests. I expect the usual, “Eat less, drink less, do more exercise” but get a 2 hour medicine tutorial instead. Very detailed explanations of the science behind the conditions mentioned. I knew nothing about this stuff before.

Komesu san’s English is limited and she is aided by the charming Hitomi san whose English is good. As usual we giggle a lot.

Thank you Komesu san, thank you Ginowan City Health Service!
I renew my tenancy of the berth at the Marina.

The bakery https://thequietripple.com/2022/12/29/fresh-bread/ that is a short hobble, my calf is still painful, from my apartment now does delicious mentaiko rolls.

I will be returning to California soonish and am setting the boat up to resist typhoons that might blast through in my absence.

The weather is beautiful by the way.
You’re off to California soon? I’ll miss all those interesting and mouth-watering Japanese food moments you’ve provided! Steak and pizza is no match for it. Did Komesu san have any advice for you based on those tests?
That Trump video is amazingly close to the real thing. Shows just how good deep-fakes have become. Hopefully you’ll be out of the USA by November!
Yes I will miss the food and friends. You can eat very well in SF, so much diversity – parts of the city are massively Chinese. Komesu san says there is nothing to worry about but eat less, drink less, do more exercise! I am amazed how well I am looked after. I got a strange letter from Ginowan Town Hall yesterday. I went there to be informed that they were giving me 70,000 yen because I am in a no tax bracket and logically poor. I only have a tiny income here. I pointed out that I did not need the money but they insisted. What shall I spend it on? Hope you are keeping well
Looking forward to your return!
Yes, I remember wandering about part of the Chinese quarter in SF – I think I actually ate something there. Will you take any notice of Komesu san’s strictures – there’s the question? That cash injection from the town council looks just the thing for your farewell meal when you leave Okinawa this time – hopefully some more delicious photos! I’m pretty well with no obvious problems yet I’m happy to say but who knows where the time goes ( stealing Sandy Denny’s line).
