We borrow Topher’s truck and head south to Elkhorn Slough, which is pronounced slew as in, “As he was valiant, I honour him. But as he was ambitious, I slew him.” We have a boat, we have an outboard that works, what else do you need?
We go on a wildlife binge.
We cruise up and down the Slough and out towards the ocean. The place is heaving with wild things.
There are so many Sea Otters, which do not seem to mind you being there as long as you are polite.

“I say, I think that Froggy is croaking at me.”
An Englishwoman once said that to me on a ski slope upon being addressed by a Frenchman.
Incredible day. We then went to Phil’s Fish Market http://www.philsfishmarket.com/menu.html where we ate amazing fish, drank Sierra Nevada and listened to bluegrass.

![The science of interpretation of signs was vast and complex. Only some species of birds (aves augurales) could yield valid signs[26] whose meaning would vary according to the species. Among them were ravens, woodpeckers, owls, oxifragae, eagles,black-billed spoonbills. Signs from birds were divided into alites, from the flight, and oscines, from the voice. The alites included region of the sky, height and type of flight, behaviour of the bird and place where it would rest.](https://thequietripple.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/dsc_0142.jpg?w=640&h=430)
